The Infirmary Friern Barnet U.D
« on: Monday 20 September 10 17:10 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I have received my great grandads  Edmund Triggs death certificate today, and it says he died in 1932 at The Infirmary Friern Barnet U.D.
He was only 54, and was living at Chalk Farm Road NW1.
Was this a normal hospital, have googled it, but cannot find anything on it.
Also how can i find out where he is buried.
Maybe now i have his death i can find his correct birth, in London, as his marriage cetificate has been impossible to find.

Many thanks for any help.
Bev :)

I wonder if it might have been Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum.

Was there an inquest and who was the informant?

just in case there,s one for 1877  jan - feb - mar dist marylebone v 1a p 547
by adding 20 years to his birth i looked up marriages there was a good few came up  have you got any more info to try and improve the odds of finding it

Hi Trevor
Thanks for the reply, he married a Margaret Murphy, but not sure if it was in England or Ireland, If not will have to try and wor bac from the Edmund in Lambeth as i think the other one would have made him 55, my aunt said he was 54 when he died before i got his death certificate.

Many thanks for the help

Hi

If there was an inquest and or post mortem it would state it on the death certificate. If he died of natural causes there would not be an inquest. Inquests are only covened if the death is not from natural causes.
Much harder in London to know where he was buried. If he did die at Friern Barnet Hospital, this mental hospital did not have its own cemetery at this time. If the body was not claimed by relatives patients from this hospital (at least in the C19th) were buried in the Great Northern Cemetery (New Southgate Cemetery) - now privately owned by a company called the New Southgate Cemetery and Crematorium Ltd

The cemeteries in the Friern Barnet area are in section 3 - Independently Managed Cemeteries and  North West London sections
