Hi,
I'm seeking the location of THE GOLDEN LION INN.The licensee was ANNIE SHERMAN. Circa 1912. A countryside, stone built, L shaped property.Possibly near Bristol so could be on the outskirts / Glos / Somerset.
Can anyone help with the location please?
Thank you

There's a Golden Lion in Frampton Cotterell, Gloucestershire and searching the 1911 free index for Annie Sherman resident in Frampton Cotterell gets a hit.

Lots of references to the pub on google

Hello Linda,
Thanks for replying.
I found her on the census as well. However, having checked the pub in Frampton Cotterell  (on Google street view) it doesn't look anything like the one I have. I've also checked in my only Kelly's for Glos (1902) and the pub is not listed nor is it in the on line directories site for the Kelly's of 1914 (SHERMAN unlisted as well). There are a few "Beer Retailers" so I'm wondering if
1) Did a pub change it's name or
2) Did a beer retailer later change into The Golden Lion Inn?
Incidentally the GOLDEN LION you mention has since been demolished! (The demise of British pubs continues)

the Golden Lion found is on Beesmore Rd Frampton Cotterell

on the census dwelling next to Golden Lion address is Beesmore Rd -other side it is Footes lane

So if you put Golden Lion into a search engine you will get a pic

Hello Suz,
Thanks for replying.
I have checked the pub in Frampton Cotterell  on Google street view. Unfortunately it doesn't look anything like the one I have.I suppose it may have been altered but even so there's a HUGE difference.Am trying to find someone a bit local to ask!

Maybe it was rebuilt at some time -but the location seems to be spot on

There may be a local history society who can help you (our local one is brilliant for this kind of info)
