Elizabeth Ann Earley born 9 July 1933, put in Nazareth House after birth
« on: Tuesday 21 September 10 21:10 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find out who my grandfather was.

My mother, Elizabeth Ann Earley (married name Gallagher) was born on 9 July, 1933 (possibly in Strabane) Her mother was Eva Georgina Earley b1913 from Strabane.
Eva's parents were Michael and Annie Earley (nee McCallion). Eva's brothers and sisters were Patrick, William John, Hugh, Elizabeth Margaret, Robert, Joseph, Winifred May, Michael Enorch Colomba. Eva married Patrick Cummings and had more children. They lived in Limavady.

My mother Elizabeth (known as Nancy) was put into Nazareth House (Sisters of Nazareth Convent) in Derry  shortly after birth by her mother. There was no father listed on her birth certificate.

My mother was taken out of Nazareth House aged 15 and lived with her mother briefly before she turned her back out on the street. My mother then made her way to Derry where she met my father, James Edward Gallagher. They married and had eight children, of which, I am the last.

I would be very grateful of any help to track my unknown grandfather's lineage.

Welcome to Rootschat but we aren't allowed to post details of living people so you may like to read back over your post and remove any of those details.
Unfortunately it is difficult, if not impossible, to find the father of an illegitimate child without more details.

Hi there,

I realise that this may be a losing battle but it's worth a shot. Everyone referred to in this post is deceased.

The names of the children of Eva and Patrick Cummings and my siblings, who are the only living relatives, have been omitted.

You never know, I might get lucky but I won't hold my breath!

Thanks.

Not sure what you mean but thank you for confirming that you haven't mentioned details of living people (since your mother's birthdate was fairly recent there was a chance she and her siblings might still be alive).
