Messrs. Lavington, builders
« on: Tuesday 21 September 10 21:30 BST (UK) »
My relative was working for Messrs. Lavington, builders, in Cricklewood in 1916. I have searched but cannot find anything about them.

Does anyone know anything about them, please? Thank you.

Probably :)
According to the newspaper report, great-great-uncle was employed by these builders at the time of his accident.

Trade directories, thank you, I hadn't thought of that.

Hi

The building company may have their offices elsewhere, and be working on a site.
Creating an aircraft factory? aerodrome?  :-)

Does the news report have a link to which we can go and read about the accident?
Or is it short enough to post?

Thank you.

His death followed a fractured skull caused by a fall from a scaffold at British Caudron Company's premises, Cricklewood, his address was in North Finchley. An inquest was held 22 July 1916, the report of which has not survived.

The newspaper article in the Kilburn Times:

FATAL FALL AT CRICKLEWOOD. - On Saturday afternoon, at Paddington, Mr C.L. Drew held an inquest on Francis McCusker, 54, a labourer, who met with a fatal accident at some sheds in Cricklewood on Wednesday, and died afterwards in St. Mary's Hospital. The evidence showed that the deceased was employed by Messrs. Lavington, builders, and was working on a scaffolding 27 feet high. He was taking a plank from the hands of another workman when, by some means, the pole broke and he and the board fell to the ground. He was much injured. He was removed to St. Mary's Hospital, where death occurred the same day. Deceased erected the scaffolding himself. Dr Fuller, of the hospital, attributed death to the injuries. A verdict of "Accidental death" was returned.
