Can anyone tell me what the minimum age for marriage with parent/guardian's consent was in England in 1887?

With thanks, Anne

Hi Anne

Until 1926 the legal age was 12 for a girl and 14 for a boy with parents' consent up to the age of 21.

Hope that helps

Debbie

PS they didn't need consent under 21 if married before!

Thanks Debbie

That does help a lot......... I have a great grandmother whose age fluctuates just a little in my "sightings" of her. Just wanted to check that she hadn't added a few months to her age in order to marry at the age of 20 if that was "under age" at the time.
