Catherine Ward 1848
« on: Thursday 23 September 10 12:28 BST (UK) »
Can SKP give me a hand over a very high brickwall that I have come up against ???
I have been searching a while for the birth of Catherine Ward brn at Berwick abt 1848 Father Charles Ward Mother Isabella McConnor.
The 1851 census show them living at Slaggyford Village,Knarsdale Northumberland, if anyone has Catherine in their tree or can impart any information no matter how small, it will be greatly appreciated :D

Hiya

you might be better posting this query in the Northumberland section of England as Berwick is in England

There is also a Berwick in Scotland  :) It borders on the east coast with England (see here for county map www.scotlandsfamily.com/county-map.htm)

Catherine, aged 5 (born c. 1846?), shows as born in Berwickshire Scotland on the 1851 census. Have you got later censuses for her confirming Scotland as her birth place?

There is also a Berwick in Scotland  :)

Now I'm totally confused. Where?

Sorry, Imber....missed my 'shire...meant to say Berwickshire  :P  The 1851 entry for Catherine and family has Berwickshire, Scotland. Their entry that year in Haltwhistle, Knarsdale:

Charles Ward 34, b. Gloucestershire
Isabella Ward 28 b. Gloucestershire
Catharine Ward 5 b. Berwickshire, Scotland
Mary Ward 2 b. Bridgestone

HO107; Piece: 2416; Folio: 52; Page: 4

There was a likely son Charles chr. on 04 DEC 1850 in Knarsdale, Northumberland but a possible death shows 1st Qrt 1851 in Knarsdale for a Charles Ward which may be why he doesn't show on the census that year.

Like you DDraig, struggling to see them in the later censuses  :-\

I noticed there were these two deaths in the 2nd Qrt 1851:

Isabella Ward and Mary Ward, Vol. 25 Pg. 195 in Haltwhistle

Wondered whether, with the likely death of youngest Charles the quarter before, this could be mother and sister Mary from that 1851 entry.
