Ballyshannon is in Donegal Diocese. Clogher Barnony, Tirhugh Parish Innishmacsaint.
Ballyshannon come under the province of Ulster so does Fermanagh
Some records will be held under Proni you have to remember until the 1920's ireland was whole. then it became north and south. There are four Provinces in ireland Ulster, Connaught, Leinster and Munster.

My GG Grandfather's birth in Ballyshannon
« Reply #10 on: Thursday 23 September 10 14:44 BST (UK) »
Hi All,
I have a copy of my GG grandfather's birth certificate William Carson born 2-Aug-1864, and under Profession of his father (William Carson), it states "Constable". My initial reaction was that he was possibly in the RIC, but after many searches and investigations, even paid the PSNI who apparently hold all RIC records, they could not find a RIC Constable based in Ballyshannon, Donegal called William Carson.

I wonder if anyone has any other ideas as to his profession ?

Regards,
        Mike.

this sounds familiar - have we searched for 'Constable' Carson before ?

Yes, there was a previous thread so I've merged the two to avoid duplication.

Thanks,

Just wonder if William was actually serving in Ballyshannon at the time, or just gave that as an address at the time. Were there any William Carson RIC men located ?

If you've already double checked the RIC records maybe a post on the occupations section of rootschat might be an idea - for some possible ideas on other types of Constable ?

just re-read this thread- may have mixed up the two Williams in my previous...

just to make sure I have this all straight

1. William jnr born Ballyshannon 1864, father William snr
2. William jnr marries in 1884, in Bundoran in 1884

What father's occupation is on William jnr's birth cert ?

Based on the marriage cert - William snr could have been serving anywhere at that time - if he was still alive. RIC officers were moved around quite a bit, and it's also worth remembering that they were not supposed to serve where they or their wives were born.

Hi Shane,
    Understand the confusion.

William Carson Jnr's birth cert in 1864, states his father's profession as a "Constable". Father also called William Carson.

This birth record states born in Ballyshannon, and administered by Arthur Graham, Workhouse, Ballyshannon.

Someone already put on here William Carson Pigot's Directory 1824 but under this is also says, Master in Chancery, under Anttorneys.  In Pigot's/
