The Shoobert Family
« on: Thursday 23 September 10 16:01 BST (UK) »
Hello there!

I am researching the Shoobert family of Hackney and surrounding parishes and I am hitting a bit of a barrier with the baptism of John Shoobert son of John on 1 May 1748 at Hackney St John.

I'm pretty sure from the surname that they must have moved here from abroad but if anyone has any information to share relating to the family and its origins I'd be very grateful.

All the best

Hi Trevor

Thanks for the suggestion - in fact Richard has just been helping me with another branch call Agomber who were also Huguenot.

Cheers

Hi,
Are you aware of an apparent South Carolina connection and Shooberts on the run? Bottom of column 2: http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/11560/pages/4

Regards
Rob

Thanks Rob - I hadn't checked those records yet - looks like the right family!

Yes the marriage to Elizabeth Arkley is correct - she was the daughter of Jeremiah Arkley bap Hull with sisters bap South Shields and Whitby - if anyone could find more siblings that would be great!
