Where is Rhoddens, County Down
« on: Friday 24 September 10 15:37 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

Does anyone have a map or link that locates Rhoddens? My ancestor James Park died 9th Jan 1832 at Rhodens, but I have various spellings for this place in my records--Rhoddens, Roddans or Rhoding, County Down.

And is anyone working on Park or Lyons in this area?

Many thanks . . .
Ireland--Park, Lyons, Gaston, McCartney
Scotland--Dobson, Brodie, Sanderson, Ormiston, Easton, Moffat

Hi,
Closest which I can find is RODDANS in the parish of Ballyhalbert, Newtownards District.
Regards

EDIT  Roddans is a townland ( smallest admin area) about 2-3 miles north of the village of Ballyhalbert in Co Down. If you use Google Maps and enter RODDANS ROAD UNITED KINGDOM it will bring up a short road which passes through the middle of the Townland.

Hi,
Perhaps a bit of a long shot - but there is a Roddens Park in East Belfast - which would be classed as Co.Down. The area was built up in the 1960's and perhaps the use of the name for some of the roads related to some property that was in the area beforehand?

Roddans Road is directly off the seafront on the road between Ballywalter and Ballyhalbert on the Ards penninsula County Down.  My aunt currently lives on this road.  A lot of the area is and was owned by the Blakiston-Houston family.  If you google the name you'll get more info.  The family employed large numbers of labourers and household staff.

Thank you all for your replies. Ballyhalbert is definitely the right area as James Park died there on 9 Jan 1832. He was born in Roddans c. 1766.

Cheers,
Jeannie
