Jersey look ups
« on: Friday 24 September 10 17:12 BST (UK) »
Can SKS help me please?
I am looking for the marriage of Elias WAY born 1815 Tolpuddle Dorset to possibly Elizabeth Read SKINNER circa 1865
Also the baptism of James WAY born circa 1869 Jersey.

Can someone tell me. When a spinster gets married I'm told she keeps her maiden name, was that true, is that true now? Does she BOTH maiden name and husbands name?

In Tolpuddle church is a memorial to a Caroline Way Smith of Guernsey. Knowing she was baptised Caroline Way in Tolpuddle does is necessaryily mean she married a Smith on Jersey or Guernsey?

Best wishes,
Derek

Hi Derek

I can see a James Way birth in 1871 but not the son of Elias.

Would that be correct?

Hi Carole & Hill, thank you taking the time to look for me.

I am very aware of James son of Charlton & Susan WAY and this not the James I am interested in.

By the way, Elias WAY died June 1871 in Guernsey.

Elias was baptised in Tolpuddle in 1815 I think it was typical census enumerator error with his age. At least the marriage date has narrowed a little, my guess of 1865 was a little out.
