" Completed" Elizabeth BOYD nee McNAUGHT
« on: Monday 27 September 10 00:40 BST (UK) »
I'm interested in finding out any information on Elizabeth McNaught b. abt 1836 in Penpont, Dumfries-shire. She accompanied her Uncle David McNaught b. 1826 in Penpont to Australia aboard the SS Great Britain and arrived in Melbourne in 1863. They finally settled in Ballarat, Victoria where she acted as David's housekeeper. I have a lot of information on David but little for Elizabeth.
Elizabeth apparently married a John Boyd in 1866 and had 4 children Margaret,  Wilhelmina Mary, William Patrick and Francis Maud.
Any information on John and Elizabeth gratefully received.
McNaught, Robertson, Wighton, Duncan, Dawes, Fyffe, French, Getty, Herdman, Jelly, Gourlay, Vickers, Armstrong, Ruffell.

Hi,
For your interest
Moorabool and Morrisons were gold diggings between Ballarat and Geelong.

Their occupancy there seems well after the main "rush of gold discovery.  The Moorabool was the name of the river along which the gold camps formed.  As time went on, infrastructure including shops, schools and pubs were established.

Have just finished a great book about the region.  I'll check for mention of the surname.

Many thanks just about filled all the holes in my research. I was interested because David, never married, had written Elizabeth out of his will and died a rich man in 1899 in Ballarat. He stated that Elizabeth was well catered for as I believe she married one of his co-claimants McNaught, Young and Boyd.
Thanks again.
