Looking for help to find a marriage
« on: Monday 27 September 10 02:47 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I am having a lot of problems find a marriage for Thomas Sinclair born abt 1836 in Wick. He married a Georgina Miller, I think in Caithness as their first child Amelia Reid Sinclair, b. 2nd March 1856, Wick, Caithness.

they then moved to South Ronaldsay and had a couple of children there, but too early for the marriage details to be on the registry. This family are on the 1861 census for South Ronaldsay, but seem to vanish after this and then turn up in Canada. in the Canadian 1891 census, there are two other children Elizabeth/Lizzie and Margaret/Maggie stated as being born in Scotland. However I cannot find them. There were a number of other children born in Canada.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

I think the trascriber in the 1881 simply guessed at the birth locations as it is barely readable and the 1891 census shows Temple as being born in Ontario.

Hi Willie

These are the children showing to Thomas and Georgina, as Scottish born, from IGI:

1. AMELIA REID SINCLAIR  Birth: 02 MAR 1856 Wick, Caithness
2. ADAM GORDON SINCLAIR Birth: 18 JAN 1858 South Ronaldsay, Orkney
3. JOHN REID SINCLAIR Birth: 30 JAN 1862 South Ronaldsay, Orkney
4. MARGARET SINCLAIR Birth: 12 JUN 1864 South Ronaldsay, Orkney
5. ELIZABETH GEORGINA SINCLAIR Birth: 22 JUL 1866 South Ronaldsay, Orkney

The later births should hopefully let you confirm Thomas and Georgina's place and date of marriage.

Death details for son John Reid Sinclair (1925) and daughter Elizabeth Georgina Sinclair/Budd (1924) show here http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start

Also from that search, shows the birth of a son William on 29 Oct 1874 in Charlotteville, Norfolk, Ontario. Can't see him on the 1881 census that Ev posted so may have died young?

Likely shipping entry for the Sinclair family arriving in Quebec in 1867 on the St Andrew:

Thomas, 40
Georgina, 39
Amelia, 11
Adam, 8
Thomas, 6
John, 3
Maggie, 2
Elizabeth, 1
