Search here or in a particular Irish County?
« on: Monday 27 September 10 18:12 BST (UK) »
I have many ancestors with the names: Dunican, Boland, and Farrell from County Westmeath, Ireland. After posting several messages on the Westmeath message board, I see where several hundred people read my messages but not one reader replied to my posts. Please tell me if I am doing something wrong.:(

Thanks for replying, my luck!
Many of the surnames that you have listed from your profile settled in the greater Waterbury area in Waterbury, Connecticut, USA.

The details mentioned in you previous Westmeath posts are all well before the start of Civil registration, so you will need to research parish records. Do you know the family religion ?

If they were Catholic you can check the various parish details, dates available, and location of the details on the Irish Times website : Westmeath RC Parishes  Most of these are available on microfilm in the National Library.

see : Introduction to Irish Records

Some parish records for the county are online on a pay-website - www.rootsireland.ie

previous posts :

BOLAND in Tubber & Rosemount, Moate, Wesmeath
 FARRELLS in Milltown circa 1818
 DUNICANS of Rosemount, Moate, Wesmeath

Remember to check the Resource boards :  Ireland, Dublin, Antrim & Cork (and stickies at the top of other county sub-forums)

It's many years since I was in Connecticut lovely place especially at this time of year
I keep adding a name when I confirm it is correct which is becoming slower through pressures of time! Both currently in my life and times past and incomplete records!

I guess that I'll have to be patient and just wait for responses from the people who are researching the surnames that I posted previously on the Westmeath message board. Some of those pay sites, which offer RC church records, can get to be quite expensive. It's like paying for air to fill your tires when you're paying Euros to see each page that may or may not contain the information that you are looking for.

It is interesting how so many people from Moate, Westmeath and the northern part of County Kings (Offaly) emigrated to the Waterbury, CT, USA area and married people who came from these same proximities in Ireland during the mid 1800s.
