Digging a little deeper all is not so simple, we think

The 1881 Census gives the following family:

William Markham b 1829 Oadby
Elizabeth (nee ??) b 1829 Whetstone
Elizabeth b 1864 Whetstone
John Robert b 1870 Whetstone

The 1871 Census is similar

Is this the same family as William Markramand Elizabeth Nedham? (m incidently Blaby 15 103). In other words was Markram a spelling mistake OR are there 2 different families Markham & Markram with parents William & Elizabeth ?

If so to which does our William (son of Robert & Mercy) above, belong?

SFT456

Very possibly Markham has been mistranscribed -or just entered in a different way

William and his parents are "Markeram" in 1841 census

1841 Oadby Leics
Robert Markeram 35 ag lab
Mercy 35
Sophia 14
William 12
Richard 5
Robert 3
Frances 9mths
all b in county
HO107 599 23 4

Suz
Thornhill, Cresswell, Sisson, Harriman, Cripps, Eyre, Walter, Marson, Battison, Holmes, Bailey, Hardman, Fairhurst Noon-mainly in Derbys/Notts-but also Northampton, Oxford, Leics, Lancs-England

Greeting’s STF.

This difference on the spelling of the surname of Markham / Markram.
Has been questioned on before…….

I personally have helped other researchers on this site with the name Markham / Markram problem. …

Having seen the original Baptism register for William in Oadby
Held at the Records Office Wigston..

I could see how the difference came about. …..
Remember that the name would be written down as it was heard. …..
And those who it belonged to
might not be able to read it. ..... and so would not question it.

I think you just have to go along with the information you have
With the idea you are at lest on the right lines. ……
