A newspaper completed

 Hi, I,am tracing a Tyneside P O W WW2 ,and would like too find a local newspaper that would have details WW2 causalities, information from M O D, and Museums expensive .

Two for starters... published in Newcastle.. The Newcastle Evening Chronicle and the Newcastle Journal.

Smaller newspaper published out of Morpeth, Hexham, Sunderland etc.
("Tyneside" is not necessarily an exact area ! )

Spen probably means High Spen, which is Co. Durham in the area of Chopwell and the Derwent Valley.  The most local newspaper would be, I think, the "Blaydon Courier" or the "Gateshead Advertiser".  Both can be viewed at Gateshead Library.  Two soldiers from here were awarded the Victoria Cross: DOWSON and YOUNG.  If you google High Spen, there is quite a lot of info about the area AND Michael DIXON will have more, I'm sure :)
