Coroners report
« on: Friday 01 October 10 08:14 BST (UK) »
Can any one help with this question:-
I have just received the death certificate for my husbands aunt who commited suicide in 1934. Inquest was held 20/7/1934 by the County of London Coroner. I live many miles from London, would I need to go to the London Metroploitan Archives in person or how can I access newspapers from that time? I expect it would have made the local paper, she died on the way to Charing cross hospital and her adddress was in Westminster.
Thanks Janet

Hi,

If the report has survived and is available for public access, then the LMA can make a copy and send it to you. I've emailed then in the past with similar enquiries and found them very helpful.  The copying cost for a 1902 Inquest was around £26 (this was a few years ago); it depends on how many items from the file you want.

The Newspaper Library at Colindale would probably have the local newspapers; I've used a researcher to find items for me as I too live some distance away.   It seems a lot to pay but much less than the cost of getting there/staying in a B&B etc.

As she died in Westminster, there might be a newspaper record in the Westminster Archives.
