Richard HOWLING and Sarah EMMERSON
« on: Sunday 03 October 10 10:03 BST (UK) »
Hello - this is my first post, having just registered - after seeing something about my ancestors on this site.

I have, just today, discovered that my ancestors, Richard and Sarah, whom I have been puzzling about for a long time made there way to Australia and died in VIC!

They were last shown on the British 1851 census, at which time Richard was a China Dealer.  All of my family history research has been UK based, as I didn't know until today that  they had emigrated.

Can anyone give me any hint as to how I might find out about their voyage here - no luck on FindMyPast or Ancestry - and how I can find out more about their lives here?  I have seen something on FindMyPast which suggests Richard may have got gold fever.

thank you in anticipation

You guys are geniuses!  I turn my back for a few minutes and all this wonderful information is forthcoming - fantastic!

I haven't directly checked the paper hanging reference - but it HAS to be him!  He was a paper hanger in 1841 before becoming a china dealer in 1851 - so he has gone back to what he knows.

This is just great - thank you so much!
