Birth Record
« on: Sunday 03 October 10 14:38 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me to find the birth record of my gggrandmother Matilda Smith?  She was born about 1843 in Chilbolton and from her marriage to William Waters I have discovered her fathers name was John Smith.  On the 1851 census there is a John Smith living in Chilbolton with a daughter Louisa aged 7, the same age as Matilda would have been.  From the 1861 census onwards my gggrandmother is listed as either Matilda or Mary M.

Up to now I have been unable to find any births records so can't discover her mothers name either.

Any help would be appreciated
Yelsel

Does the occupation for John Smith in 1851 match with occupation for your Martha's father's occupation?

I see that there is also a Martha in the same household, aged 4.  It makes me wonder if the two daughters have been muddled in some way by the enumerator.
