Hi!
I'm looking for information on the Murphy family who live in what was then called Carranrow. Luckily, the head of the family had a fairly distinctive name: Ferdinand (although I've also seen it listed as Frederick). Ferdinand Murphy married Mary Sinnott (Clone) in Monageer on 28/11/1867 when both were in their early/mid thirties... They went on to have ten children, some born in Clone, some in Carranrow:

Mary (born 25/10/1868 - died about 1947 - Mrs Murphy of Tincurry)
Thomas (born18/02/1870 - died 12/10/1959 - in Carranroe)
Catherine (born 14/04/1871 - died 26/09/1956 - Mrs Murphy of Chapell)
Aidan (born 07/01/1873 - died 11/09/1955 - in Carranroe)
Mary Ann (born 06/05/1874 - died ? - Mrs Neill of Newtown)
Margaret (born 15/09/1875 - died ? - Mrs Nugent of ?, Australia)
Sara (born 10/03/1877 - died ? - Mrs Doyle of Ballimanana)
Elizabeth (born 06/01/1879 - died ? - Mrs Ralph of Tombrack)
Annie (born 1890 - died 17/12/1971 - Mrs Neill of Tomatee/Carranrow)
Pierce (born 1882 - died 21/01/1890 - in Carranrow)

There were a number of Ferdinands living in Carranrow at the time of the census so I assume they are all related as the name is so unusual. Probably father, child and first cousin...

Any information would be hugely appreciated and happy to share anything I have on this side!

All the best,
Caroline

Hi! Tomahurra!

Yes... Ferdinand known as Ferdie now (I knew a descendent of Ferdinand Murphy of the same name but called Ferdie!) but only found Ferdinands and Fredericks in old records while looking for ancestors. That said, I don't know if I've searched for "Ferdie" in familysearch because of that, so might give it a try!

If anyone has any information or may be connected to this family, do give me a shout!

I know a limited amount about Ferdinand's own family which might help if you're related further up the tree...

Ferdinand's parents were Thomas Murphy (vaguely... born between 1782 - 1791, and died 02/11/1860 or 69 - died age 78!) and Mary (born about 1782 - died 24/12/1871)

Ferdinand (born about 1832 - died 15/05/1910) had at least two sisters and one brother that we know of:

Pierce (born abot 1821 - died 24/01/1898 in Tomanoole)

Mary (born ? - died 23/02/1848 as Mrs Cain) some talk about her marrying a french soldier who set up camp in Ballycarney?

Sarah (born about 1829 or 1831 - died 05/11/1882 aged 53 or 55 as Mrs Morrissey)

I'd assume their father Thomas Murphy would have had a brother called Ferdinand and that it was a family name...

The current family living in Craanrue which are related to the Murphy is Whelan. Not sure now far back the church records of Castldorrell go but might be worth looking at the Bunclody records or even Kilmyshall record

Thanks a million!
Yes, have shown the Whelans what I have so far but still trying to find out more details as they're still thin on the ground! Church records haven't really show any more info... but am trying to find other descendants and put more meat on the bones of what we have so far!
Thanks again!
