Hi,

Looked in 1861 - No Culmstock.. Then looked in Reg district.. it seems to be in Somerset:

Wellington
Created 1st July 1837. Mainly in Somerset, but included part of Devonshire.
Sub-districts : Culmstock; Milverton; Wellington; Wiveslicombe.

Looked to see if I have Wellington in Devon 1861 - No Wellington.

So it'll be Somerset that you'll need to ask for.

T
Rossiter - Gloucestershire
Daw - Wiltshire
Mingo - Devon/Canada
Eames - London/Middlesex
O'Leary - Cork & London
Field - Kent & Sussex
Bourn - Sussex
Mewett (not related, but was gggrandad's 1st marriage). Sussex
Hayes - Limerick
McNulty - Dublin?
And many more to list.

Hi
Culmstock is in Devon, and was in 1861 but it was, and is, in Wellington (Somerset) registration district.  Births in Culmstock are recorded in Census returns as Culmstock, Devon
It is in Tiverton, Devon district for Census returns.
I will also post my message in Somerset, but assume that Culm Valley records are held in both Somerset and Devon records offices.
And yes it is confusing, but not as bad as Berkshire that is now Oxfordshire!
Ken
