WALTON and FISHER
« on: Sunday 30 May 04 06:40 BST (UK) »
I am searching for a marriage certificate for Alexander Walton and May Fisher - my grandparents.  May was born in 1896 and Alexander may have been born in the same year.  Alexander was a miner.  May Fisher was a Geordie so I think they probably lived in Co Durham/ Northumberland.  No sure when they married but they had a daughter (Eleanor) who was born in Ashington in 1919.  They moved to Australia between 1919 and 1922.

I would be grateful for any help.  Thanks.

Hi Caz

This site for County Durham will allow you to search BMD and let you order certificates online.

http://www.durham.gov.uk/gro/search.nsf/search+index

This is the Northumberland (for Newcastle) BMD free to search site. It only covers dates from 1837 to 1900 at the moment, but you may find it useful further down the line.

http://www.ndfhs.fsnet.co.uk/RegIndex.html

This site covers all UK, but do charge. I have searched 1918 and 1919 for you with no luck.

good luck

Thank you so much for your help.  I have only recently started researching my family history and am finding it very addictive.  I have also looked at many web sites but this one is exceptional.

Today I received a copy of my grandmother's (May Fisher) 2nd marriage certificate.  She remarried in Australia so I now have more info, e.g. her parents' names, John Fisher and Ellen Urwin, so I'm looking forward to searching UK records for any references to them.
