Re Richard, I can give you a little information that you may not find in the records. I have just completed a project to record all those CGs who entered the navy during the Crimean War, and your Richard was one such man.

I have him serving on HMS Nile, where he gave his place and date of birth as Falmouth, 22 June 1808. For this service he was awarded the Baltic Medal, which was sent to the Hastings CG District on 6 April 1857.

Thank you for that but I have made a boob.

The chap I am researching is William Richard Morely May born 20 6 1816 in Plymouth. He was married to Jane Miller. he is my husbands 2x gt grandfather.
However, I also have Richard Freeman Morley May 1784 - 1846 and William James May 1847- 1842 both were supposed to be with either the Navy or Coastguard. I had better delve a bit deeper I think.

Perhaps Richard is a cousin ?

Thank you once again
