Hi Merlin,
Thank you for your reply. I do like your thinking, but sorry to say that the Dolan's and Doherty's are two separate families.
Catherine Dorney born in Dublin (Parents: Thomas and Mary) married William Dolan in 1860. Catherine Dolan died in 1872 in Maldon, age 32. William Dolan died in 1913 in Maldon (Parents: Felix and Matilda), age 79. Catherine was an "Assisted Passenger" on board the "Castilian" in 1857 and William Dolan was also an "Assisted Passenger" on board the Lady Milton in 1857.
That Catherine Dorney and William Dolan had the following children:
William Thomas Dolan b. 1861 Maldon,
Alice Dolan b. 1864 Maldon,
John Edward Dolan b. 1866 Maldon,
Richard Dolan b. 1868 Maldon,
George Henry Dolan b. 1869 Maldon,
Catherine Dolan b. 1872 Maldon,
My Catherine Dorney and William Doherty had the following children:
Elizabeth Anne Doherty b. 1867, Swan Hill,
William Thomas Doherty b. 1868, Narung Station,
Mary Augusta Doherty b. 1870, Narung Station,
Catherine Josephine Doherty b. 1873, Kilkyne,
Frances Louise Doherty b. 1874, Kilkyne, and
Edwin Gregory Doherty b. 1876, Kilkyne.
My Catherine Dorney's parents were Thomas Dorney and Eliza Lynch.
William Doherty's parents are not known hence the need for the Dorney/Doherty marriage. The informant on his death certificate believed that William's father was also a William.
William Dobherty (this is not a spelling error on my behalf) arrived in Melbourne from Liverpool as an Unassisted passenger on board the “Invincible” in December 1857 - his wife to be Catherine Dooney (again not a spelling mistake) was also on board the same ship.
Thank you to both yourself and Alison for trying again on this one. I really appreciate you taking the time.
Cheers,
Janet.
