Thank you Mick for all the info.  Looking at the 1841 census I feel Emily Hartgroves is the same person as Emelia who (m) John Hartgroves in 1836, perhaps she (D) in child (B) when she had her next child and that is why he (M) again. Life was so much harder in those days.

just had another look and can confirm that the john and emily hartgrove on 1841 are not yours
these pair along with their daughter mary ann are still in romford in 1851
and as you already know your family were living in pot kiln in 1851.
so we still do not have him in 1841
are you positive that the marriage to emelia is your man?

Thank you for the info.    Info. I have is:-
The children of William and Anne Hartgroves I have are the same as on the 1841 for  John (C. 22/1/1818) Isaac (C.12/2/1820) plus others before, but I do not have Sarah, so I think I will have a look at the Family Search site to see if I can go back with William and Anne Hartgroves. I wonder who the children Waylett  come from.
It is because of the difference in age John Hartgroves (m) Mary Ann Harknett 1/4/1850 at Parish church High Roding, Essex. that gave me the feeling that perhaps John was (M) before, so when I found a (M) of a John Hartgroves to an Emelia Reader on 28/9/1836  I wrongly  thought  this.  Perhaps if you have a moment and could look on the 1841 for Mary Ann Harknett  I know she was (c) 1829 her Father was Andrew Harknett and in 1851 he was living in Spinning Wheel Lane with wife Mary children Elizabeth/Ann/ Eliza/Rebecca/Evbenezer/Andrew. I think the Sarah Hartgroves could be the dau. of Thomas & Esther Hartgroves (C) 18/6/1834)
