kitching/ where is west coundon

hello all ..

I am reserching the kitching family from west coundon/bishop auckland  area ,

but I have them residing in west coundon,,, 

A place i can not seem to verify on map.

can anyone shed some light on this area please..

Hi ya Col,

I would think West Coundon has now changed to either Coundon Gate or New Coundon - both of these are west of Coundon, near Bishop Auckland.

I recently passed through Coundon a few weeks ago when visiting relatives.

West Coundon is not listed in the Durham County Record Office Place Names Index, which lists which Church of England parish a County Durham place/settlement was situated in, at any given date.

Hi,

I think it must have been known as 'West Coundon' at one point as my relatives who live not too far away have often referred to it as that.  I've just had a reply from my Aunt and she said it's just all Coundon now.
