ABBEE - Brickmakers of Chorley Wood
« on: Monday 11 October 10 02:26 BST (UK) »
It appears I may have a connection to an ABBEE family who were brickmakers in Chorley Wood.

James ABBEE married in 1801 Elizabeth HOBBS. I am trying to find Elizabeth's birth or baptism from 1784 to see if she connects to  my HOBBS lot from Bovingdon but have not been successful in this endeavour. George HOBBS and Marey VISE married  1780  had 13 known children one of whom was my ggg grandmother Sarah bn 1802.

According to James ABBEE's 1849 will he left all to his wife Elizabeth and there was no mention of children in his will.

Does anybody have any  information  about the ABBEE family who were brickmakers and farmers from Chorley Wood or can tell me where I may find some information about the brickmaking ABBEE family. I believe there was another ABBEE brother, Joseph  who was also a brickmaker and I think he and James may have been in partnership.

I think Elizabeth HOBBS may have been a much older sister of my Sarah HOBBS but as yet I have no proof of that, only a 'gut instinct' :)
Many thanks
Deb

Hi

(If you don't already have this)

(Mis-)Recorded as ABBA in Chorleywood
James(60) (& Elizabeth(55)) Brickmaker
& Joseph(70) (& Sarah(70)) Farmer
are on the 1841 census (consecutive pages) HO107 438 20

There's also Sarah(70) and James(35)

I believe Catlets Farm ("next door" to James/Eliz) is now Catlips Farm WD35EU

James & Joseph ABBEE appear in Kellys 1851 as Brickmakers

Many thanks, for that. I haven't  come across the name spelt as ABBA before. I shall bear that in mind.
I shall google earth Catlips and see what happens.

Must have a look at the 1827 land ownership transfer.
Thanks a lot for your help
