Dear Moragus,
Thank you for your last posting and interesting corroborative detail re. capture of Lt/Dr. James Brand, 1722-1795.
There has been a great deal of confusion here which I have tried to resolve in the light of my own research, please see attachment. Best Wishes, JonB65.

Having obtained a copy of 'The Jacobite Grenadier', Gavin Wood ,2013, I note that the author states in his foreword, p.vi, ' What follows is a novel of total fiction and all the characters whose actions I chronicle are purely imaginary'. Hardly a sound base for the family historian.  JonB65.

Hi James Edward Brand is my direct ancestor, he is my 9th great grandfather. If anyone finds out further information about his life, it would be great if somebody could let me know :)

I sources this info from Ancestry.com, Public Member Trees (Provo, UT, USA, Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2006), www.ancestry.co.uk, Database online. Record for Ann Brand.
I have since confirmed his date of birth as 1699 from various sources in ancestry.
Do not ever trust anything you find on Ancestry or other commercial web sites unless it is a image of an original document. In particular, do not believe or rely on any online family trees submitted to these web sites. Some information may be accurate, but a lot of it is just plain wrong. Use these so-called 'sources' as finding aids, and make sure that you view and verify every detail using genuine primary sources.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

To CharlBrand7. Re. your recent posting. I know quite a lot about him and was interested to note that you think you are a direct line descendent. It seems probable that there is a link to Alexander Brand, Watchmaker in Edinburgh 1685-1760. If you contact me through Roots Chat, I will try to help.
