Forgot to say Grace, Marions illigitimate daughter married Joseph McCluskey 15/11/1881 He was aged 25 and she was 18. She lived at 20 High Riggs Edinburgh and he lived at 10 Scotland Street.  Her mother is given as Mary Comb fish dealer married after brides birth to William Fraser Steam Ship ? deceased

Marion and William Fraser had 3 children
Elizabeth Fraser b 14/6/1868 Leith
John Comb Frase 24/10/1869 Leith
Marion Fraser 15/8/1871

I am of course assuming we have the correct Marion (Noble) Combe.

I don't know if you're interested in other Combes in Newhaven, but in 1885 James Fairbairn Combe, lighthouse keeper at Girdleness, Aberdeen, married Grace Anderson at St. Abbs Head, Coldingham, Berwickshire. Grace's father was keeper of the St. Abbs lighthouse.

James was the son of George Combe, fisherman, and his wife Helen Flucker, in Newhaven. I assume James had been called after the popular Newhaven minister, the Rev. James Fairbairn.

In 1889 James F. Combe and Grace Anderson had a baby girl called Elizabeth Hutchison Combe christened at Crail, Fife. James was then the keeper of the lighthouse on the Isle of May out in the Firth of Forth, but the baby was born at 22 Victoria Place, Newhaven.

how interesting the flucker family seems to run through most families around Newhaven. My GGGGgrandfather John Coombe married Janet Cairnie on 18th November 1833 she was the daughter of John Cairney and Isobel Rannie .  John Cairney was the son of John Cairney and Marion Flooker b circa 1756.  Marion b 24 April 1709 North Leith was the daughter of Wulliam and Kathrine Flooker.  I take it Flucker and Flooker are the same family

Yes, and Flockhart is another variant.

I wonder if your Cairney is the name which is now usually spelt and pronounced Carnie. One branch of the Newhaven family used to have a fishmonger's shop in Newington, on the south side of Edinburgh, and I always bought my fish there. They had atmospheric old photos of Newhaven round the walls.
