I've just become aware of this site and noticed the discussion about the Comb family from Newhaven, from which I am also a descendant. My Great Grandfather was the John Comb born 31 December 1835, father John Comb, mother Grace Christie. John came to Australia about 1853-4. I have been wondering where each of his siblings went to after his mother died. The census shows that Christopher stayed with his father and new mother, ultimately becoming a lighthouse keeper as well I understand. It seems that each of them must have maintained some contact, I believe John did have contact at least with Christopher, and I assume from the chat above that Grace must have maintained contact as well. Anyone followed any other detail on other descendants?

I can't help identify the others in the photo for you unfortunately, but I'm interested in trying to track the rest of the family of John Comb and Grace Christie. As a reminder, using some information from the above posts and some of my research: John Comb b 20Sep1809 Newhaven (to John Comb and Janet Carnie) m Grace Christie 6Dec1833, Children:
Elizabeth c 3/10/1834
John  c 31/12/1835 migrated to Australia 1855, never went back to Newhaven, all descendants in Australia.
Janet Carnie  b 5/12/1837.…c 24/12/1837
James b 30Nov1839
Grace b16/9/1841.….c 3/10/1841 to USA, Canada, back to Edinburgh
Marion Noble b 5/12/1843.….c 31/12/1843 (Marion had a daughter Grace b 29/8/1865)
Thomas b 15/3/1846.…..c 23/4/1846 died Rosebank Edinburgh 11Aug1852
Christopher Christie b13/6/1848.…c 30/7/1848 lighthouse keeper Newhaven
Ann Kerr b25/6/1850.… c 14/7/1850 died Rosebank Edinburgh 26Jul1851
Robert b 29/5/1853.…c 22/6/1853 died Rosebank Edinburgh 27Nov1853
Grace Christie died in childbirth with Robert 17Jun1853, John Comb then remarried Catherine Ferguson and they had two children:
Thomas 25Nov1854
Anna 18Mar1859
Christopher, Thomas and Anna were the only three left at home for the 1861 census, where were all of the others. I think John Comb (senior) died 18Jan1881 in the Edinburgh poorhouse.
Does anyone know where Elizabeth, Janet, James, Thomas, or Anna went, did they migrate or stay in Edinburgh? Appreciate any insights. Thanks. Gary
