BURNETT in Mullingar
« on: Friday 15 October 10 19:27 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I am trying to find information about James BURNETT born in Mullingar, Westmeath in 1846 (died 1925, buried in Highgate Cemetary).

He ended up in Islington married to Sarah Ann (Maiden name unknown but born Warwickshire, dates b.1854-d.1949)

I can find him and his wife on the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census but not before that however their first child was born in 1879 and they pretty much had one a year since then.

I would really like to find out the name of his parents and when he/they came over from Ireland. Also any other information about the family would be welcomed.

Additional info is that he was a Police Inspector in London so may have additional records in that aspect.

Thanks
Letting, Clout, Boys, Rickard, Godfrey, Burnett, Rolfe

We have him as being from County Westmeath but I guess County Longford is nearby.

I have found him in the 1871 census at Woolwich, he was a Police Inspector by the time he retired so it does make sense for him to be in the barracks.

Any idea how I can trace his parents?

Thanks

Yes they are close enough!

Just looking at this site:
http://www.met.police.uk/history/records.htm

and of course his marriage certificate will have his father's name.
