Interesting headstone at MELB. GEN CEMETERY for Benjamin HART

Here lieth the mortal remains of
        Benjamin
beloved son of Henry and Ann HART
 died 28 Dec 1861 -   aged 16 years.

Erected by the officers and members of No.1 Battery  R.V.A.R.O.R.
 in memory of
Benjamin HART.

He seems young to be a soldier
and what do all those initials stand for I wonder.

Again, the Monumental Inscription MGC for

AMELIA HARRIS makes it clear that HARRIS was her married name as the wife of MORRIS HARRIS, with whom she is buried.

Good find Sue. I just had a quick Google but couldnt' find anything.
Royal ? Victoria ? Army ? Regiment ? .....?
Did they still have 'drummer boys' as late as the 1860's or did that die out at the beginning of the century?

Hi Jon,
I don't know much about the Services I,m sorry to say.

There are other MI's at MGC I think for the family.  I have seen some in the Jewish Section there.

As you have death details of parents and many of the children now, they may not be of interest.
Let me know.

Sue

Is there somewher that I can look up the MI's?
I see from the newspapers that Elvina married Mitchell TARTAKOVER in 1863 at the East Melbourne Hebrew Synagogue.
