Sampson Henry Perry, Superintendent of Police 1831-33
« on: Saturday 16 October 10 22:48 BST (UK) »
Hi looking for genealogical and further information on Sampson Henry Perry as Superintendent of Police 1831-33. Is there anyway to find his police service record? Also his birth information? I cannot find anything on ancestry.com apart from him being mentioned in The London Times. No mention at TNA either. Any help appreciated.

Hi

If he was the inspector of the Finsbury district station then he was a member of the Metropolitan police.

The Metropolitan Police were only formed in 1829. He doesn't seem to have served very long.  Not sure what you mean when you say no mention at TNA?  If you mean on the website, he won't be.  You need to check the microfilm indexes at Kew to get his warrant number which will then enable you to find his service record.

Hi Valda

Sampson Henry Owen Watson Perry was my G G G grandfathers brother, I have the information that he was a brewer and married twice. I had thought Sampson Henry Perry, superintendent of police in Finsbury maybe another Perry relation. I saw 1811 London directory has a John Perry esq in Finsbury, my feeling is this John Perry maybe the father of Sampson Henry in Finsbury also therefor John Perry esq could be brother of Dr Sampson Perry 1747 - 1823 who married Barbara Ogle. So possible both Sampson Perry 1747 - 1823 and John Perry esq of Finsbury named their sons Sampson Henry Perry. I'll be surprised if the police superintendent is Sampson Henry Owen Watson Perry as his descendants never heard of him being in the police force. TNA = The National Archives. I'll try to get the service record there. Thanks
