Hi  BrainDead

Thanks for the offer, I have most of the info on the Election scandal, it turned out that it was heard in the House of Lords not the Old Bailey in 1928about April. Any background on the two Richards would be appreciated though I don't know how much they will have, good hunting.

Best wishes

Is the 1928 date referred to in the previous post an error for 1828? The matter being referred to in the House of Lords has two possible contexts 1) The final court of appeal of the decision in a case previously heard in lower courts, or 2) As it concerned elections it might have been the subject of a debate in the Lords. Do you know which please?

Hi Redroger
The date was a typo it should have read 1828.
The hearing in the House of Lords was on the 26th and 27th of April 1830 to be exact. I have found a transcript at House of Lords Journal Vol 62. I am not sure in what context the debate was, it reads like an examination of the facts of the matter.

From a consideration of the facts of the matter it may have resulted in a legal decision from the Judicial Committee of the House of Lords acting in its capacity as the highest court in England.

I'll have a good sniff around Retford Library tomorrow for you Steve, I went into the library today to book a microfiche reader, so I'll have a look at the parish records for your Hannams. If there are any specific details you'd like, let me know.
They don't seem to have any local papers from that period of time though but they told me I wasn't the first enquiry they've had recently about the scandal. They'd had a phone call recently and had looked up the information - was that you by any chance? They've only got a little information in one book, so they're looking that out for me.
I'll obviously let you know what I find & if anyone else is looking at this thread and wants information from Retford, let me know.

Hi Braindead
It was me that has been in touch with Retford Library but only chasing Parish Records. They said the Parish records were in a poor condition and dificult to read. They did not mention a book in their reply, that might be very interesting. Could you have a quick look and see if there is anything relating to the Hannam's in it.  There were several other Hannam's that died in Retford, Thomas, Vincent and others but I have not got that far yet. Thankyou very much for the offer to have a look.

Thanks

Do you have any dates for these, just to make life a bit easier, even if just approximate?
Likewise for Frances Mary Hannam.
