*** COMPLETED *** 'Retreat near Cupar'
« on: Friday 22 October 10 11:31 BST (UK) »
Hi fellow Fifers

I keep coming across "Retreat near Cupar" on death register pages.

Is there a connection to the old Fife and Kinross Asylum at what is now Stratheden Hospital?

Can anyone help?

Regards

Family surnames being researched ...
Crawford, Neilson, Lindsay, Reekie, Davidson
Drummond, Laing, Pearson, Tulloch ... will do for starters but there's a whole lot more!

From my youth I seem to remember the retreat/asylum in question being called Springfield.

Many thanks AlexR

I should have closed this thread, as I found out through local sources that the Retreat was a row of cottages outside the gates of Stratheden Hospital, formerly known as just 'Springfield', and was the local Asylum.  http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=335149&y=713475&z=120&sv=335149,713475&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=835&ax=335149&ay=713475&lm=0

There is a (growing) village called Springfield just a short distance from the hospital.

Your memory serves you well, Sir ;)
