A Lamport & Holt steamer Flamsteed 3,381 tons was wrecked near Valparaiso March 27 1892 on a voyage from Liverpool. Might this be the one?
The web site www.mariners-l.co.uk sometimes can produce excellent results.

The Morning Post (London) 25 Nov 1886
Loss of a Steamer
A South Shields correspondent states that all hopes are now given up respecting the steamship Flamstead belonging to Messrs Wilkie and Turnbull of North Shields, and her crew, confirmation of her loss having yesterday been received by her owners.  The message states that there has been picked up off the Race of Alderney a medicine chest having a brass plate marked "Flamstead, screw steamer" and also bearing the name of a chemist of South Shields, who fitted it up.  The crew numbered 26 hands, most of whom belonged to North and South Shields.
