Or I would think it more likely that the elder child, if there was one, was illegitimate, and that is why a) she was single at marriage and b) he was not talked about

a family tree on ancestry has another son for Marian:

Reginald Allen Moyse
b. 8 Feb1909 Devonport

Seems he was adopted by Arthur John Blackburn and his wife Maud Elizabeth (Dawson)

Perhaps you could try finding Reginald in the 1911 census?

To view the tree you'd need to be a subscriber to Ancestry I'm afraid.  Have you tried Genes Reunited?  There are 3 people with Marian in their tree - although one's a Simon (guess that might be you)?

The family I gave you in 1891 are at the same address in Saltash in 1901.  Marian age 16 - dressmaker.

What is the full 1911 entry? How old, and where and when are her parents / step parents born?

Then you can see if the 1901 sighting is likely to be the same family
