Coed Poeth Wesleyan Chapel marriage
« on: Tuesday 26 October 10 22:10 BST (UK) »
My great grandfather William Owen was the first person to be married (by licence) in the Reheboth Wesleyan Chapel in Coedpoeth on 26th December 1870, according to a bible presented to them by the minister  Owen Williams.  William Owen, son of Richard Owen, Tailor, was from Chester and married Elizabeth, daughter of Peter Evans who kept a grocers and drapers shop in Coedpoeth according to the 1868 directory - I don't have the address. The couple went to live in  22 Seller Street, Chester where William (24) had just set up in business as a tailer  on his own account.

Does anyone have info on Peter Evans or Richard Owen?  Thanks.

Hi timowen  :)

Various lines of my family had connections to Rehoboth Chapel and one of my  Gt Grandfathers was a preacher there.

I am also distantly connected to Peter Evans who married an Elizabeth Kelly formerly Belton in 1879.

Hi Maidmarion,

My Peter Evans had a 29 year old daughter in 1879 - could it be the same one re-marrying?
do you have any other info on him?

In 1881, Richard Owen, tailor, age 60, was a widower. He was a boarder in the home of a police officer named William Burgess, and living at 4 Crewe Street, Chester St John Baptist, Cheshire.

It says he was born around 1821 at Llanwenllwyfd, Anglesey - probably Llanwenllwyfo.

Good morning

Yes the marriage I mentioned was Peter's 2nd marriage which took place at Brynyffynon Chapel, Wrexham.  Father also Peter Evans, stone mason.

He was buried at Rehoboth Chapel 18 Dec 1891 but unfortunately the chapel was demolished in recent years and just a few were moved to the nearby cemetery. The gravestone of Peter Evans isn't one of these but Elizabeth was buried with her 1st husband and their stone has been saved.

Here are some Rehoboth MIs but there isn't one for Peter Evans but perhaps there maybe others you are interested in. It is possible to request further information from the owner of the website if required.

This is Peter's son, Peter Christmas Evans
