Sounds Like Kingston Completed
« on: Thursday 28 October 10 08:55 BST (UK) »
On her marriage certificate Jane Gilligan 1859- 1927 lists birthplace as Kingston BUT on the shipping manifest her and siblings( multiple ships) say they are from Westmeath. Maybe they moved Or a registrar wrote down what he thought he heard. The writing is definitely not hers or her husbands.
Is there anywhere in Westmeath that even remotely sounds like Kingston?

The marriage certificate says Kingston, Ireland, the ship manifests says Westmeath. Is there anywhere in Westmeath that remotely sounds like Kingston.

Issue solved. The registrar must have needed hearing aids or something. How he turned LOWTOWN into Kingston is beyond me. Found a death notice for a younger brother of my direct ancestor.
