Lt. Col. F.J. Roberts - Wipers Times
« on: Thursday 28 October 10 20:12 BST (UK) »
Lieutenant-Colonel  F.J. Roberts commanded the 12th Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters in WW1 between March 1917 and May 1918 and he was the Editor of the famous  WIPERS TIMES. My enquiry is whether he also served in the Royal Welch Fusiliers?
I am aware of a Malacca cane 'swagger stick' which was inherited by a friend of mine, which bears the RWF dragon and the stick also bears the name of F.J. Roberts.
We are wondering whether it is the same F.J. Roberts?  Any advice would be appreciated.

Penmon,

His medal index card only shows active service with the Sherwood Foresters and his entry in WO 338 is the same. Unfortunately it also has a "P" prefix, so his records will still be with the MoD.

Thank you Forester.
It doesn't appear that Lt. Co. F.J. Roberts was with the RWF then, unless the MOD has additional info.
Who was the F.J. Roberts whose stick is in my friend's possession remains the question?
Incidentally, lovely set of Great War photos on your website.
