Hi Everyone, I'm a first time poster.
I too am researching this family.
Sir Thomas Bouch and Margaret Ferrie Ada Nelson are in my family tree also.
I descend from their daughter Elizabeth Ann Bouch who married James John Hissey the author.
I have found this a difficult family to trace.! That puts it lightly!
For along time all I could find for Sir Thomas's parents were Capt William Bouch. Now this lead me on a few years worth of researching and finally I came across his mother as being Elizabeth Sanderson. Capt Bouch was a bit of a mystery to me for ages. But then, when I was least expecting it, a friend wrote to me with some info on him and a picture of his headstone.
This family has been a thorn in my side...really my family trees side for a number of years now.
But I did find Elizabeth Sanderson as Widow Elizabeth Bouch employed by her brother James Sanderson at her pub the Ships Inn and then on her 80 acre farm bought before 1836 when Capt Bouch died and its at Thursby too.
Then in 1881 we find her daughter Ann Bouch running the Ships Inn at Thursby.
Ive found a number of ships owned by the family.
Ive also found that the Sproule family took over the shipping business.
Sir Thomas's Brother, William Bouch married Jane Sproule.
I am looking for info on the Sproule family if anyone can help, Id be very grateful.
One thing I keep finding is a reference to the West India company. I think this is a typo as it should be the East India company . The shipping company.
This good friend of mine has found a court listing between Bouch and Sproule. Apparently it was the first definition of income??!! And many court cases have used this case as a reference. Its amazing what you find sometimes.
My information on the Sproule family is limited. I don't have alot of info on them.
I see ESDEL also has the same family names as I do ....we may well be related Esdel.
Id love to hear from you .
I am interested in finding out what happened to the shipping conglomerate that this family had.
I know Sir Thomas Bouch was a well known railway engineer who engineered the Tay Bridge. I also know he was not solely responsible for the disaster that befell the bridge. I also know his brother William was also in the railway business. And how his other brother Richard inherited the Ships Inn at Thursby and how there is a plaque saying it was once owned by the father of Sir Thomas Bouch.
As you can see, I'm on my way now with this tree, but there is much yet to be discovered.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Nice to meet you all.
Jo-rae-me...Nee Hissey....That's so you all know where I fit in.
