Barker family vincent st derby

This is a bit of a long shot, but I am looking at my Grandfathers time he served in WW2.
I dont have his service number all i know is he served with the Engineers.

I have bits of info from members of family but not a lot, i know he served in Italy for a time.

One piece of info i do have is when he was first called up he was stationed in Derby and billeted out to a family called the Barbers who i  think lived in a Vincent street am told  they owned a Bicycle shop in town.

What i am trying to do is slowly piece together his time, so any info on the barker family , vincent street the shop anything will be of intrest to me.

Hello Sue

I know nothing about the family in Vincent Street, but are you aware that in the 1940's there was a large Army camp on Osmaston Road in Derby which was about 2 miles away from Vincent Street (Normanton) and there was an Army barracks just up the road, so I would have thought he was based at one of those locations.
Even if you had his service record it would not identify where he was in Derby.
Vincent Street is still standing.
