Tracing this branch of the family is proving to be very frustrating.  I did find an Elizabeth McGlynn on the 1861 census living in Manchester with her parents Eliza and Andrew and siblings Eliza, Margaret, Ann and Mary.  This family looked quite promising as elizabeth is the right age and they are from Ireland, then on the 1871 census Eliza is still in Manchester with 3  daughters, Elizabeth, Margaret and Mary also a brother and his son, Lawrence Brophy, son Thomas but then I lose them and can't find any connection to Elizabeth on the 1891 census.  I guess I just have to keep trying and hope for a breakthrough eventually.  Many thanks for the help.
