Martha Maria FURLY
« on: Saturday 30 October 10 07:09 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am researching my female line, and have a brick wall in that I can 't find a baptism for Martha Maria Furly, b. about 1767;  she married Nathaniel Carkeet, b. 1764, baptised 14 Feb 1764 at St. Martin on Looe Bay, Cornwall.

It is thought that she was the daughter of the Rev. Samuel Furley and Ann Bloodworth; Samuel was the vicar at Roche in the late 1700's and later at Lostwithiel -  " Samuel Furley held the living on bonds from 1804."  (Lostwithiel - St. Bartholomew) Source:  http://pyran.org/LakesLostwithiel.pdf.

Is anyone researching this family?  Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Tisy

Hi Tisy
If the parents are right
they married
22 JUN 1758   Saint Mary-St Marylebone Road, Saint Marylebone, London, England
Soo Martha could have been born in a different county  ???

Hi Althea,

Yes, this is possible - because of the Rev. Samuel's profession, they moved around quite a bit;  a sister, Johanna, was born 1763 in Slaithwaite, Yorks.  The firstborn was in Suffolk;  George, a brother, was born 1765 in Slaithwaite;  John b. 1772 was born in Roche - so it seems that they started out in Suffolk, moved to Yorkshire, and then back to Cornwall.  From that, it seems that Martha Maria may have been born in Yorkshire or Cornwall.  The problem is that I just can't find a baptism for her anywhere in the Country, searching the IGI Family Search, the IGI Pilot Search and Ancestry, so it seems that the record may have been lost.

It would be good if I could find some reference to her being the daughter of Samuel, as this would settle the issue.

Cheers,

Tisy

Hi Althea,

Good thinking - he died in 1795, but not sure where (and I can't remember where I found this info - curses!).  Where best to look for a Will?

Cheers,

Tisy

Hi Althea,

Thanks, thanks and thanks again!  I can now go forward.  The younger Samuel was a son, also a vicar.

Cheers,

Carol
