The name of Winifred's husband was Wilfred N Brown Constable, born 1891 at Normanby in Lincolnshire, the third of four children of Albert and Clara.  Albert was the sixth of 12 children of Charles Brown Constable by his second wife, Mary, and was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.  Albert became Chaplain to the Indian Forces and all the children, bar Wilfred, were born in India.  Wilfred was born when his father was, for a short time, Curate at St Peter's Church, Normanby.  The surname variously appears as Brown Constable, Brown-Constable or Constable.  Often the name is listed under C for Constable.

Thanks Badsey, I have been doing some research on the Brown-Constables and they were a very interesting family. Wilfred's mother Clara died in 1934 and lists her as living at Eton College. Am wondering if Wilfred or another member of the family had a connection there

Wilfred's elder sister, Alice Amelia, married Cyril Edgar Sladden of Seward House, Badsey, in 1919.  Alice was lady's companion to Mrs Gwenelin Ashwin, who lived in Pool House, just across the road from Seward House.  The story goes that Cyril came home from the war, fell in love with Alice and married her within four weeks, to ensure that he got her before his brothers did!  Cyril became a Housemaster at Eton College, hence the reason for Clara dying at Eton.  After Alice's death, Cyril returned to live in Badsey for the last 12 years of his life.  Our website, www.badsey.net, has a wealth of information about the village of Badsey near Evesham, Worcestershire.  You will even find a reference to a Lieutenant Brown-Constable in the Index of People.  I have only just discovered who this was.  It was John Cecil Brown-Constable, the brother of Alice and Wilfred, who died July 1916.

Hi Badsey that's cleared up the connection with Eton College, thanks. Have had a quick look at the Badsey website and found it really interesting.
