**COMPLETED**LUTON St Mary's Burial Register 1852
« on: Saturday 30 October 10 20:47 BST (UK) »
Hello

Has anyone access to the 1852 Burial Register for Luton St Mary?  I'm looking for the age of a Mary Tomson who was buried 24 Jan 1852.  I'm hoping she would be about 74 years old.

Many thanks.

Karen

Hello Karen

How do you know her exact burial date ?  & how do you kmow it was at St. Mary's. I have found her death index March 1852 in Luton RD ref 3b/272 & found her lodging in Luton with James & Maria Freeman, aged 73 born Caddington.

But I cannot find her on the NBI, at St Mary's or anywhere else in Beds; if she was listed then I am sure her age would be recorded as it seems all other burials at that church have an age.

Hi John

Thanks for replying.  I got this burial record from the FamilySearch site, but they don't give ages.  It didn't mention StMary'sChurch, only Luton, but I'm guessing that's the probable place because her husband died in 1844 and was buried there and as she was living with her daughter Maria in 1851 census in Luton near the church, thought it most likely place as all other family members were buried there. She's not with her daughter in the 1861 census, so presumed she died between 1851 and 1861.

The other problem may be the spelling of Tomson - it has been spelt Thompson and Thomson in the past.  Her husband Richard Tomson was buried in 1844 with this spelling, that's why I was hoping the Mary in 1852 might be her.  I've already ordered one death cert for 1859 with the speling Thompson and it wasn't hers.

Thanks for your help.

Karen

Which section of the "Familysearch site"? I can't see it.

There are no transcripts for Beds parishes after 1812, so you need to check the microfilm, which can be ordered and viewed at your nearest LDS Family History Centre

The NBI for Luton St Mary, and many other Beds parishes, stops at 1851 John, so that's why you can't find it, if indeed the burial was in that parish.

The parish records including burials at Luton St Marys can be viewed at Bedfordshire Archives or a Luton central library. My next trip to the Archives may be mid November but you could email them asking for a quick lookup with your info & see if they respond without suggesting you pay a charge. Their latest newsletter says they are introducing a charge fron January when you take a digital photo of their records.

Hi   John and David

David - The burial record was on the Pilot Record Search on the LDS site and thanks for your suggestion re ordering the microfilm, I haven't done that before but  there's a centre not far from me.

John -  I'll start with emailing Beds Archives and see whether they'll help me.    I'll leave a message on this thread if all my efforts come to nothing and I need your offer of a look up.  (I live in Kent so that would be a great help)

Thanks to you both.

Karen
