2nd Regiment of Fencibles
« on: Sunday 31 October 10 11:58 GMT (UK) »
Hi!

I have an intriguing character in the family tree of my wife - Peter Ferguson who, in the marriage certificate of his marriage to Janet Laurie in 1798, is listed as a soldier in the 2nd regiment of Fencibles.

From what I can gather, this regiment was lead by Colonel William Weymss of Weymss and it was disbanded in March 1799, seeing service in Ireland.  I am, without being able to find Peter's death certificate so far, trying to establish if he probably came down from the Highlands and married a local Perth girl or if he was recruited in Perthshire.

Any help would be magic or just some good links to information on the 2nd Regiment of Fencibles.

Cheers.   ;D
