Hi Dureay and Roger

Those were the newspapers I checked on 19th Century British Newspaper site.  I also did a general search.

Lizzie

ps.  I'll try Times Archives, but I can't believe if George's death wasn't reported in the local paper, it would be in The Times.

Hi LizzieW, Not looking good is it. George`s death must not have been worth mentioning, how sad. You never know I might get a surprise mail from you. Till then thanks for looking. DUREAY

Hi Dureay

Sorry, as expected nothing in Times Archives either.  I suspect your  George's death was not horrific enough to be reported at the time.  There are lots of entries, in the 19th century newspapers, about countesses being decapited, horses ripped to shreds, whole trains falling off bridges, at home and abroad, etc in railway accidents, but nothing about anyone being accidently struck by a train.

I think the death certificate is the best info you are going to get.

Lizzie

I doubt the Wikipedia report of a Fitzwarren rail crash is the one, that was dated November 1890, whereas Dunreay states:

Quote
died on the 6th August 1890 age 70. On his death certificate he was accidentally struck by a train passing on the Eastern & Midlands Railway in Thursford.

But why not try Wiki's Article Wizard on the specifics of this accident?

Hi Lizzie and Sylvia, More confused than ever but like you Lizzie I don`t think this Fitzwarren crash could be mine. For peace of mind, I too, think George`s death wasn`t too horrendous or they would have printed all the gory details. Thank you DUREAY

Yes, I think you have exhausted likely possibilities, so best leave it, you never know though, sometimes solutions surface when least expected.
