Apprentice Butcher *COMPLETED*
« on: Monday 01 November 10 07:30 GMT (UK) »
Is there any way to trace the progression of a person who became a Master Butcher? Are there trade registers for Scotland or Apprenticeship records?

This person, David Lawson GRANT, was in an orphanage in 1901 - aged 11 - but, by 1912, became a trained butcher and then, or around about then, he had his own butcher's shop.

Simon

Update

It seems not.

However, the archivist at Dundee City Archives did do his best and was able to find some information. I can't commend him to highly.

Hi Simon,

There is a David Lawson GRANT, on the military records of WW1, which are free to search this week on Ancestry.co.uk, due to Armistice day etc. It may not be the same person, he had not filled in next-of-kin records. He enlisted in Edinburgh, but records point to Brechin/Dundee connections. This one was 24 yrs 11 months old when he enlisted 10th Jan 1915, so birth Feb 1890, which ties in.
