Victoria Hall, Sunderland Tragedy 1883 COMPLETED
« on: Monday 01 November 10 15:50 GMT (UK) »
Of course I bought a copy of the Northern Echo June 18 1883 for 50p at  car boot! I couldn't leave it to be dumped maybe at the end of the day!  It is the edition covering the tragedy at Victoria Hall, Sunderland where so many poor children were killed.
If it is of use to a Rootschatter with connections to that day I will happily pass it on.  All I ask is that the new owner shares the contents with any other interested Rootschatter.
Just pm me - I have no connections with this disaster.

Hi

I am a desendant of two of the children who lost their lives in the tragedy. Their names were Ann Milner Pringle who was 9 years old and Margaret Pringle aged 7 years old.
Their mother was Mary Hannah Milner from South Hylton, she married Joshua Pringle and they lived in Southwick Sunderland.

My Great grandfather Carlton Milner was Mary Hannah's brother.

I would be very interested in the paper. I would be more than happy to pay the postage and it will be keep with my family archive. Thank you for your generous offer.

Please let me know if this is acceptable to you.

regards

Phil Milner

I realise that this is an old thread that is shown as 'completed', however I have been able to locate the graves of Ann Milner and Margaret Milner Pringle in Mere Knolls Cemetery in Sunderland and to take a photo of the headstone.  Whilst the photo has come out rather on the dark side I am happy to pass on a digital copy to anyone who is interested  Please send me a PM if I can help.

My wife is a great great grandaughter of Elizabeth Milner who was the eldest surviving sister of Mary Hannah.

Elizabeth married Benjamin Wild and moved to Australia in 1857. Carlton Milner was Elizabeth and Mary's half brother as their father remarried after their mother died in 1850.

In my research into the family I would appreciate any information at all.
