Margaret Edwards b1861 Penbontrhydybeddau
« on: Wednesday 03 November 10 22:36 GMT (UK) »
Margaret Edwards, my gggrandmother was born Penbontrhydybeddau in 1861. Her father was John Edwards who had died by the time Margaret married Thomas in 1887. By this time she was living in the Rhondda. Unfortunately there are lots of Edwardses, many of them named Margaret and quite a few with a father called John.

Can anyone help me pinpoint the right family?

In case it's of any help, Margaret's two daughters were called Margaret Ann and Susan Mary (Thomas' mother was Susan) and her two sons were David (Thomas' father's name)  and John.
Much obliged

Hello,

where do you get her birth place from?
I have tried a general census search for rthat birth place and can find no-one born there  :(
There is a family in the right area, I think - I don't know if you have census access so will post 1861 to see what you think.

1861  RG9; Piece: 4200; Folio: 77; Page: 11
Llwyndern Treiferig
John Edwards 31 yrs   ??? servant b Llanbadarnfawr
Margaret Edwards 29 yrs Llanrested
Mary Edwards 9yrs
John Edwards 7 yrs
Sarah Ann Edwards 4 yrs
Margaret Edwards 9 mths
children all botn Llanbadarnfawr

I can't read John's occupation - after looking at 1871 - it could say Miner Lead
In 1871 RG10; Piece: 5567; Folio: 8; Page: 9
they are at Penybont, Treiferig and John is a Lead Miner and there are more children

regards

Looking on map for Treiferig - it looks even better as it is very close to
Pen-Bont Rhydybeddau

so this looks a likely bet for her family.

Thanks Heywood
I know Margaret's place of birth from the 1891 census. In fact in the 1891 census there is an Evan Edwards, lodger aged 20yrs, also born Penbontrhydybeddau and one of the witnesses at her wedding was Evan Edwards. What's the betting this is one of Margaret's brothers. Is there an Evan amongst the clan in the 1871 census?
